There are many and varied roles for volunteers at Sailability Bayside, including:

  • Administrative - such as Officer of the Day,  client registration,  coordination of sailing times, life jacket station and more

  • Kitchen -  providing morning tea and lunches for sailor clients and volunteers, and

  • Support Boat and yacht 'Faith' - you must have a recreational boat licence and a marine radio licence for these roles.

Training is provided for all areas

around Sailability

YOUR SKILLS
Calm view.jpg

You must have a Blue Card before you commence volunteering with us.  Blue Card introduced  "No Card No Start" legislation on 31 August 2020.  You need to apply online through the Blue Card web page.  We can help once you have an account set up.

If you love sailing and no longer have access to a boat,  come and sail one of our dinghies, yacht or support boat.

If you want to learn to sail to take client sailors for a sail, we have qualified volunteers who will help you gain this skill.

With your recreational boat licence and marine radio licence you could train to skipper our support boat and/or our yacht.

All skills are of value as there is always maintenance to be done.

We provide regular training in all areas of Sailability Bayside.

Sailing of the Dinghies, All volunteers who want to sail must be accredited by one of our trainers before they can take clients sailing. You will learn how to rig and derig the dinghy, and what maintenance is required.

First Aid and CPR are offered annually.

We have an annual training day where everyone is briefed on the essential areas of successfully running a sailing day.  This includes rigging/derigging boats, maintenance of all equipment, Life Jackets, lifting slings.

Risk Management and Man Over Board are important parts of every Training Day.
